| General rules |
| 1. Smoking is not allowed in the Library. |
| 2. Handphones and pagers must be switched to silent mode before entering the Library |
| 3. Library members must abide by the Polytechnic’s rules on attire. |
| 4. Library users must keep the Library clean and tidy. All litter must be cleared and disposed of in the bins provided in the Library. |
| 5. Silence must be observed at all times in the Reflection Zone on level 2. |
| 6. Library staff may ask Library users causing disturbances to others to leave the Library. |
| 7. Seats in the Library may not be reserved. |
| Library transactions |
| 1. Library materials may not be removed from the Library unless they have been checked out at the self check machines located near the Library entrance. |
| 2. Staff and Students members must produce their valid Staff / Student card when borrowing materials. All External library members must produce a valid Library Membership card issued by the Republic Polytechnic. Borrowing must be done in person. Members must ensure the library materials have been properly checked out to them before leaving the library. More information on membership can be found in the Membership information pages. |
| 3. All Library materials must be returned through the book-drop situated at the Library entrance. Republic Polytechnic Library materials must be returned back to Republic Polytechnic Library. |
| 4. Members must ensure that materials checked out to them are returned or renewed on or before the date due. Overdue notices sent by the Library serve only as a reminder and non-receipt of the notices does not absolve any member from paying fines. Information on renewal can be found in the Renewals. |
| 5. All transactions in the Library are by cash card only. Cash payment is not accepted. Payments must be made at the Borrower’s Enquiry stations or at the Service Counter located near the entrance of the Library. Information on fines and loan period can be found in the Library Guide. |
| 6. All books and personal belongings must be shown to the staff at the Library Service Counter whenever required to do so. |
| 7. Library membership cards are not transferable and must be produced whenever requested by Library staff. |
| 8. Students and staff of the Republic Polytechnic must report lost of their Staff / Student cards to the One-Stop Student Centre. External Library members must report lost of their cards to the Librarian. All borrowing privileges will be suspended until a new membership card has been issued. |
| 9. The Library reserves the right to recall Library material on loan. Members must return recalled materials promptly. |
| Library and personal property |
| 1. Library users must keep all personal belongings including notebooks with them at all times while in the Library premise. |
| 2. The Library will not be held responsible for the loss of any personal belongings (including notebooks) in the Library. |
| 3. Lost of Library materials must be reported to the Librarian immediately. |
| 4. Mutilation of library material is an offence. Members caught mutilating library materials will be required to pay for the cost of the materials plus an administrative fee of S$10.00 per item. All borrowing privileges will be suspended until all payments are settled. Students caught mutilating / stealing Library materials will be referred to the Disciplinary Committee of the Polytechnic. |
| Multimedia stations and audiovisual facilities |
| 1. The multimedia stations located on level 1 in the Library are for the use of staff, students and external Library members for research purposes and for accessing email only. |
| 2. Audiovisual equipment located in the Library is for use with Library materials only. No viewing of personal materials is allowed. |
| 3. Students will have their borrowing privileges suspended if caught viewing objectionable materials at the multimedia stations or audiovisual room or if caught tampering with the PC set-up. |
